Christmas morning explosion in Nashville

Update: Since this article originally published, local news outlets are reporting that human remains may have been found nearby the scene of the explosion. We will update as more information becomes available.

Charlotte, NC — An explosion rocked downtown Nashville early Friday morning as those nearby began their Christmas celebrations. Police were responding to a call for shots fired around 6:30 a.m. EST when they came upon an RV that was playing a recorded message. The message that was playing advised everyone that an explosion would happen within 15 minutes.

The explosion caused damage to multiple nearby buildings and injured 3 people. Police are still searching for clues as to who is responsible.

Multiple buildings suffered damages in the explosion. Crews are on scene continuing to look at the structural integrity of many buildings to assure they are safe. You can see some of the damage in the photo shared on Twitter below.

Local news station 5 shared a surveillance video of the moments before the explosion. You can hear the warning playing that the area should be evacuated immediately just before the explosion occurs.

The FBI and Nashville PD are investigating and have asked for information regarding the arrival of the RV into the area. With the location being downtown, there are several surveillance shots of the area that show the RV arrived at just after 1 a.m.

Law enforcement believes the act was intentional but have little clues in order to guide their investigation at this point. At a morning briefing, they asked the public for more information to help them move forward.

Thankfully, no lives were lost due to this act of violence. There were no threats of violence in the area leading up to the holiday and no terrorism chatter that had been received.
